Description
A light grey stone tablet , all four sides formed by a semi circular convex curve , the corners squared . At centre a flat inner panel with the commemoration incised and coloured black and surmounted by a motto and heraldic beast . Surrounding the inner panel are oak leaves , acorns , rosettes and two sword hilts all in high relief.

In memory of/Colonel Charles Chester /Son of Sir Robert Chester Kt /Major of the 23rd Regt Bengal Native Infantry /and Adjutant General of the Bengal Army,/Killed in Action at Badlee Suraie June 8th 1857/when marching against the Mutinous Sepoys at Delhi/This tablet is Erected by the Officers of his/Regt and others of the Bengal Army , who had/long Known & Esteemed him . in Testimony of/their Regret .at the loss of a Good Man/a Brave Soldier .& a Sincere Friend/"Whosoever Liveth & Believeth /in Me , shall never Die" St John XI,c,26 .u.
