Nowy headed brass plaque set into a marble backboard. Inscription in relief with gold lettering. Reliefs in gold of a latin cross at the top centre of the plaque and border of oak leaves and acorns with a rose at each corner.

FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH/ TO THE DEAR MEMORY/ OF/ WILLIAM CLAUDE FREDERICK/ VAUDREY-BARKER-MILL/ CAPTAIN RIFLE BRIGADE/ KILLED WHILE GALLANTLY/ LEADING HIS MEN/ IN THE BATTLE OF THE SOMME/ SEPTEMBER 15 1916. AGED 42/ "ALL HE HAD HOPED FOR ALL HE HAD HE GAVE/ TO SAVE MANKIND- HIMSELF HE SCORNED/ TO SAVE".
