- Description
- An elaborate oak Narthex screen of six semi-glazed bays each side of double doors. The heads of the bays are carved - those either side of the doors having a rose motif, the outer bays a thistle motive, and the others a vine motif. The moulded cornice above also carries a vine motif. There is a double-curved canopy arch above the doors, at the top of which is a pelican, plucking at its breast to feed its young - a symbol of self-sacrifice. A seaweed motif flows down from the apex to two angels on top of each of the pilasters, each bearing a Christogram - IHS and XP. On the North wall to the right of the screen is a cast bronze plaque on an oak backboard, bearing the dedication, which is raised and painted white.
