- Description
- Cenotaph of classic design raised on a rectangular platform, three stone steps above the ground. Above the base of the Cenotaph, on the principle front and flanked by three-quarters projecting Grecian Ionic Pilasters, is a bronze panel in low relief with a bronze figure. Relief depicts semi-nude warrior lighting resting on his unsheathed sword with a cross behind him.Teak door placed at the base below the relief which is the entrance to the room of remembrance with a vaulted ceiling. Stone lectern placed within this room used to hold the book of remembrance. Behind the memorial is a curved stone wall with an inscription. Above the lectern hangs an ever burning lamp representing undying memory. The Roll of Honour Book referred to in the dedicatory wording is now at Gateshead Library, so is a separate report. There are no names on this Cenotaph.
