Description
According to The Spires, Towers and Choirs of Southport by Joseph Pearce Pearce, (Pub. R Johnson, 1922), the War Memorial erected by the congregation after the Great War was a window in the South Transept, which cost £1000, with a brass underneath bearing the names of the 81 men killed. The window appears to have been lost when the church closed, although the brass survives. It is a polished, rectangular brass plaque with a Latin cross on a stepped base placed centrally above it. On the plaque itself there is a small, rubricated Latin cross at the centre, with the dates of the conflict to each side. Dedications appear above and below the names which are set within an incised rubricated border in five columns. The names are incised, and painted black, with initial letters rubricated. There is a small brass plaque beneath the memorial stating its origins.
