- Description
- A stone of remembrance with four steps leading up to it. The dedication is written on the front face of the stone. The coloured Arms of the City of Norwich is flanked by four figures at the top centre of the stone. A laurel garland is carved in relief below the dates. Rectangular stone planters placed in front of the stone with two large round planters placed at either end of the line. Paving stone commemorating Corporal Sidney Day V.C. in front of the memorial.

- 2011: gardens reopened, with memorial resited more prominently and a new bronze structure. Sept 2007: The redevelopment is planned to begin in 2008. It will take 2 years and cost £4m. 2006: Norwich Council plans to redevelop the Memorial Gardens at a cost of £3.1 million. The aim is to make the garden an area for civic events and make access easier by removing steps and steep ramps to it. 1938: As the new City Hall was nearing completion, the last of the old municipal buildings between the City Hall and Market Place were demolished. The area was cleared and turned into the memorial gardens and the war memroial was moved to the new site. - Unveiling Programme/ Order of Service 9 October 1927 Unveiled by ex Pte Bertie Alfred Withers, wounded at Gaza, whose name was selected by lot. He was introduced by Gen Sir Ian Hamilton. Lesson was read by the Rev. George E Stone and the Collect said bt the Rev Canon Meyrick, RD.
