Description
Two tiered base surmounted by granite plinth, tapered shaft and cross. Inscription on the sides of the plinth. Memorial is encircled by a terrace of crazy paving and the assemblage is surrounded by a low wall in local stone. The monument is approached by steps from an outer pathway.

History
2020 Plaque in place on approach path "This Memorial has been renovated and is maintained by Bacup Rotary Club ……." 2013: Bacup Rotary Club secured HLF funding for repair works, including the replacement of lead letters. 2006: Council applied for funding to repair the memorial through the English Heritage/Wolfson Foundation War Memorial Grant Scheme. Proposed work included: repairs to paving and walls and re-lettering. 1999: Some of the letters of the dedicatory inscription missing 1996: Surrounding wall repaired and flagstones cemented
Costs

Site: Gifted by Irwell Springs Printing Co.
Comments: The land had been donated by Irwell Springs Printing Co Ltd. They also undertook the design, layout and workmanship and paid for the cost of the architecture and preparation of the terracing and surrounding wall of the memorial. The money for the memorial had been raised by house to house collections and concerts. Mr Caleb Lord had offered a site for the memorial, but the site offered by Irwell Springs Printing Company was preferred.
