Description
Statue of soldier resting on reversed rifle with head bowed. Total height is 4.98m (16 feet 6) inches. His cap bears the badge of the Durham Light Infantry. He stands on a pedestal 1.21m (4 feet) square with Greek key pattern below him. Underneath, at the top of the main panel, scrolls and cherubs are carved in half relief on each face. The pedestal flares gently down to two further bases. The whole rests in a small walled area with iron railings. The dedication is carried on the front of the pedestal. The names are listed in a single column on all four sides. Lettering is incised using Gothic lower case for the dedication and sans serif capitals for the names.
