Description
VERY LARGE WALL MONUMENT WITH BASE AND PEDIMENT SET IN AN ARCHED RECESS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TOWN HALL. ELABORATELY DECORATED AS BELOW. FLANKING WW2 TABLETS. HALF WAY UP EACH SIDE OF THE MONUMENT IS A SMALL CIRCULAR ALCOVE CONTAINING A LION. BELOW THE LIONS ARE RELIEFS DEPICTING (LEFT) A TROPHY OF ARMS AND (RIGHT) THE PRINCE OF WALES FEATHERS. ABOVE THE INSCRIPTION IN THE PEDIMENT IS THE BOROUGH CREST.
