- Description
- Tall tapering structure with chamber of silence within it which contains the Books of Remembrance for WW1 and WW2. Building stands on eight steps. White marble floor in the chamber which can be accessed via two doors. Two shelves are on the outside of the building upon which flowers can be placed. The face towards Coventry (North East) has below the cross a wreath of laurel leaves suspended by ribbons, under this are the dates carved in relief 1914 - 1918/ 1939 - 1945 and then the crest (a cat), shield (an elephant with a 3 towered castle on its back) and motto (Camera principis) of the City of Coventry. The bronze doors have the dates of the two wars in relief as well as a plain cross on each door. Round the base of the building are a number of up-lighters. 5 of these contain small memorials to V.C. Recipients.
