Oak tree forest with dedicatory tablet. Many of the trees were dedicated to ex-servicemen.

FOREST OF THANKFULNESS. / PLANTED BY THE MEN OF THE TREES TO COMMEMORATE OUR DELIVERANCE AT DUNKIRK WHEN THE BIG AND THE LITTLE SHIPS SET OUT TO RESCUE OUR MEN AND BROUGHT THEM TO SAFETY ON OUR SHORES. / BATTLE ABBEY. REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 1953

The forest became neglected and overgrown and its purpose was eventually forgotten. The undergrowth was eventually cleared leaving the stone in place. There is an intention (2019) to create a path to the stone.
