- Description
- Restoration of Chapel with elaborate dedicatory tablet. Above inscription is a large coloured family crest. Walls on North and East panelled with oak, an oak altar table and the niches of the ancient reredos have been filled with statutory representing the Crucifixion in the centre and the two Saints at the sides. The floor is grey and white marble and wrought-iron railed screens painted and relieved with gilding have been placed across the South and West archways. The cornices of the screens bear the rose and fleur-de-lys varied by the grenade badge of the Grenadier Guards and the family motto, "Loyal au Mort".

- This ancient Chapel of/ St. Thomas & St. Edmund of Canterbury/ was restored to use in memory of/ NOEL ROLAND ABBEY, Lieut. Grenadier/ Guards. Son of William Henry Abbey/ And of Florence his wife./ Born Dec. the 23rd 1897. He fell in/ the service of his Country in the/ battle before the Forest of Nieppe./ April the 12th 1918./ In this very critical action the Guards/ held up the German advance for/ three days, suffering severe losses.
