On separate glazed, framed paper:- THE OUTSIDE LAMP over the north / door was given in memory of / ARTHUR ERIC CHARLES, / one of a local family of blacksmiths, / who died a prisoner of the Japanese / in the second world war. The / lamp bears the following inscription: // “ARTHUR ERIC CHARLES. BORN 17.3.19 / P.O.W IN THE FAR EAST: AND TO ALL / HIS COMRADES WHO DID NOT / RETURN FROM SINGAPORE.”
