A hexagonal plinth surmounted by a shaft and cross. The dedication is inscribed in the plinth. The referenced War Memorials Online report shows that the memorial has been relocated from it's original location, and was originally surrounded by a garden area.

  • Nadeauville Community War Memorial in Saskatchewan- to the men of a homesteading community in southern Saskatchewan. See www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remembrance/memorials/national-inventory-canadian-memorials/details/2898 The community no longer exists and if you look it up on Google maps - at the junction of 2 "roads" the SK-633 and the SK-728 north of Tompkins - you'll see it really is in the middle of nowhere! Address: SW corner of SW 1/4 Sec 3 Township 16 Range 21 GPS Coordinates: Lat: 50.31015 Long: -108.82297 The memorial lists 3 Scots, 2 English, 1 French-Canadian and 1 American. At the moment one of the service records (for Mark Simpson) is not available but the others are: Called Higher 1914-1919 R.F. DRUMMOND Robert Fyfe Drummond – age 24 – Private (253122) 49th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Robert of Nadeauville homesteaded NE15-16-21-W3 southwest of Hazlet before enlisting in the 209th Battalion at Swift Current, Saskatchewan in June 1916. He sailed from Canada in November and joined the 49th Battalion in France in March 1917. Robert was admitted to the 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station with multiple wounds in October but he died just over two weeks later. Born 1893 in Dunfermline, Fife. Son of the late James and Janet Drummond of 32 Chalmers Street, Dunfermline. He named his brother James of New Bridge Street, Glasgow as his next of kin Died of Wounds on 15 November 1917. C.R. DALGLIESH Charles Rieve Dalgliesh – age 28 – Private (114809) Canadian Cavalry Brigade, Machine Gun Squadron. Charles was a rancher at Nadeauville (homesteaded SW20-16-21-W3 west of Hazlet) when he enlisted in the Canadian Mounted Rifles at Maple Creek, Saskatchewan in December 1914. He sailed from St. John, New Brunwick in November 1915 and was posted to the Royal Canadian Dragoons in France in May 1916 before being attached to the CCB Machine Gun Squadron in August. He remained as part of this unit for the rest of the war, Charles was hit by shrapnel from a stray shell while watering the horses at Castell Woods near Amiens and died in a nearby French Field Ambulance. Born 1890 in Galashiels, Selkirkshire. Son of Charles Rieve Dalgliesh (died 1902) and Janet Cumming (Douglas) Dalgliesh (died 1917) formerly of of 284 Galapark Road, Galashiels. Died of Wounds on 1 April 1918. R. MCFARLANE Ralph Macfarlane – age 25 – Private (252710) 102nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Ralph of Nadeauville homesteaded SE36-15-22-W3 north of Tompkins before enlisting in the 209th Battalion at Maple Creek, Saskatchewan in April 1916. He sailed from Canada in November and joined the 102nd Battalion in France in December. He was wounded in August 1918 and returned to his battalion in September but within days Ralph was wounded again and he died in the 1st Canadian Casualty Clearing Station. Born 1893 in Leith, Edinburgh. Son of Thomas and Helen Macfarlane of Hunters Square, Gorebridge, Midlothian. Died of Wounds on I October 1918. H. DEFAYETTE (Joseph) Henri Defayette – age 20 – Private (252765) 28th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Henri of Nadeauville was a native of Saint-Jérome, Québec, and homesteaded NW28-15-22-W3 west of Nadeauville before enlisting in the 209th Battalion at Maple Creek, Saskatchewan in April 1916. He sailed from Halifax, Nova Scotia in October 1916 and he was posted to the 28th Battalion in France in December. He was attached to the 6th Canadian Machine Gun Company in March 1917 but was killed at Vimy Ridge a month later. Killed in Action on 9 April 1917. A. DOWLAND Arthur Stephen Dowland – age 23 – Private (114812) 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion. Arthur was farming with his brother William who homesteaded SE1-16-21-W3 southwest of Hazlet, when he enlisted in the 9th CMR at Maple Creek, Saskatchewan in January 1915. He sailed from St John, New Brunswick in November and joined the 1st CMR in France in January 1916. Born in 1893 at Ramsgate, Thanet, Kent, Son of William and Elizabeth H. Dowland of 45 Hamerton Road, Northfleet, Kent. Killed in Action on 5 June 1916. M. SIMPSON Mark Simpson – age 33 – Private (106555) 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion. Mark was ranching at Nadeauville when he enlisted at Yorkton, Saskatchewan at the end of December 1914. Born 1886 in Dalton in Furness, Ulverston, Lancashire. Son of Thomas and Jane Simpson of 107a Cleator Street, Dalton-in-Furness, Lancashire. Killed in Action on 5 June 1916. O. ERICKSON Carl Oscar Erickson – age 25 – Private (252591) 28th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Carl homesteaded SE7-15-21-W3 north of Tompkins before enlisting in the 209th Battalion at Maple Creek, Saskatchewan in March 1916. He sailed from Canada in November and joined the 28th Battalion in France in December. He damaged his knee during training and was evacuated to hospital in Birmingham in March 1917. He rejoined his battalion in June. Born 1892 in Olivia, Minnesota, USA Son of E. Erickson of Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota, USA. He named his sister Alice Erickson of Tomkins in his will. Killed in Action on 6 November 1917. IN MEMORY OF OUR BRAVE SOLDIERS
