HAMMERED COPPER PLAQUE WITH RELIEF DESIGN RELIEF DESIGN IS OF FIGURES OF ANGELS IN THE CORNERS AND ST GEORGE IS AT THE TOP WITH AN ENAMEL COAT OF ARMS BELOW

THOMAS HYLTON MADDEN, LIEUTENANT 1ST BATTALION THE KING'S REGIMENT, BAPTIZED AND CONFIRMED IN THIS CHURCH, LAID DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS COUNTRY AND HIS FREINDS IN ACTION AT GIVENCHY, MARCH 10TH, 1915, AGED NINETEEN YEARS. HE ADDED THE LUSTRE OF HIS HEROISM TO A NAME ALREADY HELD IN LOVE AND HONOUR HERE FOR HIS FATHER'S MINISTRY AS VICAR OF THIS PARISH FOR FIVE AND TWENTY YEARS. HIS FRIENDS ERECTED THIS TABLET TO COMMEMORATE HIS SUPREME SACRIFICE WITH REVERENCE AND AFFECTION. (LINE SPACING UNKNOWN)
