THIS TOWER / WAS RESTORED WITH THE HELP OF / THE 305TH BOMBARDMENT GROUP (H) / MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION / THE GROUP WAS BASED AT AN AIRFIELD / NEAR THIS CHURCH FROM 1942 TO 1945 / DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR / AND CONSISTED OF FOUR SQUADRONS, / THE 422ND, 306TH, 365TH AND 304TH, / PLUS ATTACHED UNITS, WHICH FLEW / B-17 FLYING FORTRESS BOMBERS / AS PART OF THE EIGTH AIR FORCE OF / THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. / THIS PLAQUE WAS DEDICATED / ON THE 24TH SEPTEMBER 1980 / IN MEMORY OF MORE THAN 769 MEN KILLED / AND ALSO THOSE WOUNDED DURING / THE 480 MISSIONS FLOWN BY THE GROUP.
