- Local Publication/Booklet p.182 Bryan Matthews: 'By God's Grace: a history of Uppingham School' (Maidstone, 1984) The name of R H Purves was deleted and two names have been added. Gen. Horrocks was an Old Boy of the school, (as was Oliver Hill, the architect.)

- Country Life 25 May 1951 pp.1642-44. The carver was Mr Josiah Cribb and the gilding and burnishing was by Mr Butchart. The wording 'Still the Eternal Purpose Conquers' is taken from a hymn written by amaster at the school in 1876.
