Description
Pitch-roofed arched memorial stands within a rectangular metal fenced enclosure with three bronze lamp standards at each of the corners. The main structure consists of a cusped archway framing a Latin cross mounted on a raised inner platform. Inscription plaques on front faces of arch & beneath platform. On the rear face of the memorial are bronze plaques within a canopied shrine.

On gate of memorial enclosure : LEST WE FORGET On paving slab at front of memorial : 220 MILES TO YPRES Bronze plaque, upper central face : 1914 { ERECTED TO THE / GLORY OF GOD } 1918 / AND IN UNDYING REMEMBRANCE / OF THE MEN OF ASHBY DE LA ZOUCH / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR / COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR. Lower central plaque : 1939 1945 / "AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN / AND IN THE MORNING / WE WILL REMEMBER THEM". / ROLL OF HONOUR / (2 columns of NAMES) On each of left & right plaques : ROLL OF HONOUR / (2 Columns of NAMES) On rear of memorial, left hand plaque : IN THE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST / AND TO THE GLORY OF GOD / WE DEDICATE / THIS STONE OF REMEMBRANCE / IN THE NAME OF / THE FATHER, SON AND HOLY GHOST 15TH JUNE 1966 - AMEN On rear of memorial, right hand plaque : THIS SACRED PLACE WAS GIFTED / TO THE ASHBY BRANCH OF / THE BRITISH LEGION / BY / THE PRESIDENT, VICE PRESIDENTS / AND / THE LATE A.E. UNKNOWN: AN INSCRIBED METAL PLAQUE WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED ON THE RISER OF THE STEP FROM THE PAVEMENT TO THE MEMORIAL. WHEN THE PAVEMENT WAS RAISED TO THE LEVEL OF THE MEMORIAL THE PLAQUE WAS REMOVED AND PLACED ON THE FLAT SURFACE OF THE MEMORIAL
