- Description
- Formal garden with arched gateway. Wooden gates with concave top are supported by two brick gate posts. Surmounting is an iron arch with the inscription in gold lettering. Plaques are attached to the brick posts - on the left, bearing the dedication, is a cast bronze plaque with a laurel wreath above the raised inscription, with a modern brass plaque bearing an incised, blacked inscription, carrying 17 WW2 names, and - on the right, a nowy arched, cast brass plaque with a dove with a sprig of laurel in its beak, commemorates the start of WW1 (see WMR 102186), with a second modern brass plaque bearing an incised, blacked inscription, carrying a further 16 WW2 names. The two WW2 brass plaques are the subjects of a separate WMR record - 19340. Within the park a large interpretative board just inside the gates carries a display which is changed from time to time to commemorate anniversaries relating to both World Wars. Beside the footpaths a series of small laminated interpretative signs, one for each year of WW2, carry depictions of WW2 Government Information posters above a series of significant events in the respective years of the War. There is a wooden bench carrying an inscription for the 70th anniversary of the end of WW2 (WMR 102187).
