- Description
- Rough-hewn Celtic cross with Celtic decoration on the cross itself, mounted on a battered plinth on a single step. The incised inscription is on a polished panel on the 6 o'clock face. The plinth is a replacement for the original, which sits on the ground a few yards in front of the cross, and carries the original WW1 dedication and Names, and the WW2 dates and Names. This shows two areas of past damage, which presumably led to its replacement. The WW2 Names are inscribed on a panel at the bottom of the 12 o'clock face, above which it seems clear that a section of the plinth has been repaired after breaking off before the WW2 names were added. This is further evidenced from the image taken of the 9 o'clock face, which shows that damage and also further damage to the 9 o'clock face itself. The inscriptions on the original plinth are leaded.
