- Description
- An office building with a plaque on the street frontage. The three storey stone and slate building was originally intended for use by Belper Urban District Council and subsequently occupied by the successor Amber Valley Borough Council. It has a double frontage onto the northern side of King Street and has stone mullioned windows and a prominently gabled roof. The bronze plaque is located at the centre of the ground floor frontage. It has three horizontal panels, the central of which has a tall segmental pediment surmounted by a cast lion sejant guardant and containing a bound laurel wreath with crossed flags in high relief. The three panels are headed by a plain moulded cornice, surmounted at the sides by a pair of cast monstrous fish forming supporters to the central pediment. The central panel contains the main inscription in raised upright capital Roman lettering. The two side panels are separated from the central one by pilasters and each bears badges in relief depicting the RAF, a royal crown, a rose and a sword of peace. The foot of the plaque has a frieze bearing a further inscription in raised upright capital Roman lettering and the extreme lower right corner has the maker's name incised in sentence case lettering.
