Description
An ashlar cenotaph raised on a plinth, die and steps and surrounded by stone bollards with railings. The main pillar or pier is oblong in plan, has slightly battered faces, a stepped top, projecting panels on the two narrow faces, a laurel wreath in relief on the 6 o'clock face and a narrow chamfered cross on the 12 o'clock face. The pillar sits on a plain oblong plinth with chamfered top. The pillar and its plinth surmount an oblong die or pedestal with chamfered top and bearing inscriptions in relief on the 9 and 3 o'clock faces and with inset metal panels on the 6 and 12 o'clock faces inscribed with the names of the fallen of WW1. A further WW2 inscription is attached to the lower edge of the 6 o'clock face. The die sits on a further oblong plinth with broad chamfered top bearing metal plaques on the 6 and 12 o'clock faces with the names of the WW2 fallen and with further plaques to the fallen of subsequent conflicts on its 9 o'clock face. The whole surmounts a three-stepped base, oblong in plan, with squat square pillars or piers at the four corners. The memorial is surrounded by twelve tapering stone bollards with wrought iron railings and gate between and by flower beds contained by chamfered stone kerbs.
