Description
Square stone pillar with bronze relief sculpture of a bare chested female representing the figure of Peace, holding a lion cub under her right arm and a wreath in her left hand, surmounting a shield. Sculpted recumbant leopards in relief at the foot of Peace with relief musical instruments, firework rockets and pin wheels representing the occupations of the staff of the Belle Vue Zoological Gardens and Pleasure Grounds. The pillar widens towards the base in a series of ledges.

2013: Inscription weathered and hard to read. c1960s: The bronze figure of Peace and the sculpted reliefs stolen. 1926: Belle Vue Zoological Gardens were on Hyde Road, Gorton. The memorial was unveiled in Gorton Cemetery and not in the zoological grounds.
