- MARBLE TABLET SET ON A RECTANGULAR ANGLED SLAB DARK GREY IN COLOUR. ACHIEVEMENT ABOVE THE TABLET DEPICTS A PLUMED HELMET WITH GR I I I ON IT. IT IS FLANKED BY TWO FLAGS WITH COLOURS AND ALSO A BUGLE AND SWORD

- THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED BY SIR F. F. VANE TO THE / MEMORY OF HIS SON WALTER VANE ESQ LATE CAPTAIN / OF THE 1ST FOOT GUARDS OF DUKE OF YORK'S REGIMENT / WHO WAS MORTALLY WOUNDED AT THE BATTLE OF BAYONNE / ON THE 14TH APRIL 1814 & DIED ON THE 19TH OF THE / SAME MONTH IN THE 19TH YEAR OF HIS AGE / HIS REMAINS WERE INTERRED WITH MILITARY HONOURS / BETWEEN THE CITY OF BAYONNE & THE VILLAGE OF BOUCAT / ALONG WITH MANY OF HIS BROTHER OFFICERS / WHO BRAVELY FELL IN THE SERVICES OF THEIR COUNTRY / ON THE SAME MEMORABLE OCCASION.
