Description
30 acres of land. Flagpole with inscription at base is near the visitors centre. Wall of the Missing stands in between with figures at intervals along the wall. Reflecting pool bordered by rose beds stretch the length of the wall. Main doors of the building are teak with bronze models. One side of the chamber has mural map, other side has windows with replicas of seals. Mosaic in the ceiling and behind chapel. Map on outside of building. Main elevation of memorial has 5 pylons each inscribed with year from 1941 - 1945. Figures of a soldier, sailor, airman and coastguard on wall of the missing. Bronze models on door of military and naval equipment. Mural map of Atlantic and Europe showing the sea routes and land and seas assault lines. Mosaic features angels, ghostly aircraft, crosses and inscription. Windows with seals of States of the Union and War and navy departments. Outside map of the British Isles and sites lent to the United States during the war.
