Comments: The memorial presented in 1921 comprised the monument and its inscribed bronze plaques, plus four and a half acres of ground for use in perpetuity as an open space, and an extension to the hospital. (The land had originally been acquired for the purpose of building a new hospital, but the cost of doing so became too expensive. The land was instead therefore gifted to the town as an open space, and an extension was added to the existing hospital).
