Description
A fountain of two superimposed basins, the upper of which forms a pedestal for an obelisk from which water falls from all four sides. The fountain stands on a squared base with the dedication carved on each side. The unit badges are also inscribed around the base.

SALONICA 1916 FRANCE AND BELGIUM 1916-1919/ 1914 - 1918 IN MEMORY OF THE OFFICERS AND OTHER RANKS OF THE ROYAL NAVAL DIVISION ANTWERP 1914 GALLIPOLI 1915-1916/ BLOW OUT YOU BUGLES, OVER THE RICH DEAD/ THERE'S NONE OF THESE SO LONELY AND POOR OF OLD/ BUT, DYING HAS MADE US RARER GIFTS THAN GOLD/ THESE LAID THE WORLD AWAY: POURED OUT THE RED/ SWEET WINE OF YOUTH; GAVE UP THE YEARS TO BE./ OF WORK AND JOY, AND THAT UNHOPED SERENE/ THAT MEN CALL AGE: AND THOSE WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN/ THEIR SONS, THEY GAVE THEIR IMMORTALITY. THIS MEMORIAL DESIGNED BY SIR EDWIN LUTYENS/ WAS UNVEILED ON THE HORSE GUARDS PARADE AT THE/ CORNER OF THE ADMIRALTY ON/ APRIL 25TH 1925 THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF/ THE LANDING OF GALLIPOLI/ REERECTED ON THIS SITE 1951

6 MARCH 2008: MEMORIAL GRANTED GRADE II LISTED STATUS. 2003: MOVED TO ORIGINAL POSITION AFTER IT WAS RESTORED AND RE-DEDICATED. RESTORATION FUNDED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION. 1997: OWNERSHIP OF THE MEMORIAL UNCLEAR. A PLAN HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED BY THE GALLIPOLI ASSOCIATION AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES TO MOVE THE MEMORIAL TO AN UNSPECIFIED LOCATION.
