- Description
- In the Crypt, Nelson Chamber, a sculpted white marble wall panel with half-length roundel portrait in relief of an admiral, and inscription below. Representation of a man with bald pate, head turned slightly to the left, wearing naval uniform with epaulettes, sash, a pendant cross and an array of medals and badges. The portrait has an oval frame with, ribbon tied oak and laurel leaves (at base) and a shield of arms, flanked by angels bearing swords, with motto (at top, in front of a rectangular back panel).

- Motto: VITRTUTE ADEPTA CHARLES WILLIAM DE LA POER BERESFORD/ ADMIRAL LORD BERESFORD OF METEMMEN/ G.C.B, G.C.V.O., D.C.L., LL.D./ BORN FEBRUARY 10TH 1846. DIED SEPTEMBER 6TH 1919/ AT ALEXANDRIA 1882. ON THE NILE 1885/ THREE TIMES COMMANDER IN CHIEF AT SEA./ A Member of the House of Commons for more than twenty years/ A distinguished and gallant sailor a devoted public servant/ and the genial comrade of many illustrious and humble friends.
