Description
In the South Nave Aisle. WESTCOTT, ON LARGE OVAL PLINTH, DIES ON THE ARM OF VICTORY. THREE RELIEFS ON THE PLINTH SHOW BATTLE OFF ABOUKIR AT WHICH HE DIED AT ITS HEIGHT; RIVER GOD REPRESENTING THE NILE AND SURROUNDED BY PUTTI ONE OF WHOM SPORTS ON AN ALLIGATOR; SHIP AT ANCHOR WITH A PYRAMID NEAR-BY Sculpted marble Marble free-standing monument with over life-size figures on an oval podium: a dying man in classical dress being supported by an angel holding aloft a wreath. The dying man is falling to the right on to a coil of rope; he is being held by an angel wearing a long robe and plumed helmet, and holding a laurel wreath in her raised right hand. The oval podium has rectangular extensions at the ends carved with s-striations. The memorial inscription is on a panel on the front, under which are carved figures of a river god, putti, a sphinx, palm trees and, around the sides, three-masted ships-of-war
