Description
In the North Transept, Middlesex Chapel, a marble wall panel carved in high and low relief with a central figure of an angel and rows of mourning soldiers. The hovering female angel with open wings (spanning the width of the panel) is represented with right arm extended downwards, her left arm gathering her long cloak to her chest, and with a wreath and flowers in her long flowing hair . On either side, receding towards the centre, are rows of soldiers with heads bowed over a common grave. In the lower part of the panel are two symmetrically placed scrolls bearing the memorial inscription and draped over military objects, a ribbon medallion hanging left to the base panel with list of the names of15 officers in two columns.
