Condition
History
Lion placed in storage 1940, because of the risk of bomb damage. In 1951 residents voted 486 to 215 in favour of its reinstatement on the memorial, and it remained there until May 1968, when it the memorial was dismantled because of road improvements. It was again in storage until 14 April 1978, when it was placed on the brick plinth. It was in further storage 1989-1991 while council offices were reconstructed, being reinstated on 7 March 1991.
