- Description
- In the South Transept, east bay, a marble free-standing monument with an over-life-size statue of a General holding a sword, a tricorn hat at his feet. The figure has a cloak draped over his left shoulder and falling onto a plinth; he wears boots and spurs. The statue stands on a pedestal carved in high relief with a scene at the front showing a Roman soldier, a lion and winged Victory, and the sides carved with oak leaf festoons. The low base carries the memorial inscription on the front.

- ERECTED AT THE PUBLIC EXPENSE/ TO THE MEMORY OF/ GENERAL GEO.AUGS.ELLIOT LORD HEATHFIELD, K.B./ IN TESTIMONY OF THE IMPORTANT SERVICES WHICH HE RENDERED TO HIS COUNTRY/ BY HIS BRAVE AND GALLANT DEFENCE OF GIBRALTAR/ OF WHICH HE WAS GOVERNOR/ AGAINST THE COMBINED ATTACK BY THE FRENCH AND SPANISH FORCES/ ON THE 13TH. SEPTEMBER 1782./ HE DIED ON THE 6TH. JULY 1790.
