Description
Cast bronze depiction of a British and German soldier reaching out to shake hands over a football which sits between them. Their hands do not quite meet in a handshake. This is a quarter-size version of the original sculpture. The sculpture stands on a plinth extending from the wall beside the entrance to the hotel. This carries the incised inscription above a caste bronze plaque bearing a description of the Christmas Truce of 1914 and the dedication.
