This code of conduct outlines IWM’s expectations of school groups when they visit an IWM branch.
IWM expects teachers visiting with their school groups:
- To read all pre-visit information supplied by IWM including health and safety guidance and the schools code of conduct, ensuring their students adhere to this guidance during their visit.
- To arrive at any IWM site with appropriate supervision for the age and ability of the pupils in their group:
- For Primary aged students, there should be one teacher per ten students (1:10 ratio). Primary-aged students are required to be always within sight of an accompanying adult whilst at an IWM branch.
- For Secondary-aged students, there should be one teacher per fifteen students (1:15 ratio). Secondary-aged students may explore IWM branches independently so long as they are within hearing distance of an accompanying adult.
- To actively supervise the students on-site for the duration of the visit.
- To act respectfully to IWM staff, other visitors, IWM equipment and IWM collections whilst in one of our branches.
- To engage constructively with IWM staff requests and take proactive steps in managing the behaviour of their students.
IWM expects school students visiting IWM to:
- Follow the instructions of staff and supervising adults, without delay or argument.
- Take responsibility for their actions and do nothing to endanger themselves or others.
- Report all accidents or damage to the group leader or a member of staff.
- Show respect and act with courtesy towards others, including IWM staff, other students and the general public.
- Be helpful, cooperative, and considerate to others, including IWM staff, other students and the general public.
- Not to run around IWM spaces or interact with objects in an inappropriate fashion.
- Not to use offensive or aggressive language.
- Not to be excessively noisy or to shout.
- Not to use physical force against others, including IWM Staff, other students, and the general public.
