An IWM volunteer talking to visitors on gallery

Free introductory talks

Join our volunteers for a free introductory talk on an item or key figure linked to our collection or subject matter.

Talks are given on a wide range of topics. Volunteer Kev delivers talks about the Indian Army on the Western Front. He says, “I’m proud to be at the IWM & share the stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. I also love the reaction and comments from the children when we talk about the urine-soaked turban!

Volunteer Alan’s talk is about Alan Turing. Alan says, "It is great to have an opportunity at IWM to help visitors position their existing knowledge of Alan Turing in the context of his brilliant achievements and ever-increasing fame and legacy. I love the follow up discussions, whether about The Imitation Game, the history of computing or diving into the workings of the Enigma.

Talks are subject to volunteer availability. Ask a volunteer or staff member to direct you to a Ten-Minute Talk during your visit.
