On these exciting flying days, enjoy IWM Duxford's huge outdoors and historic airfield as you watch iconic aircraft take to the skies.

Experience two hours of flying and commentary, get up close to the aircraft as they park up on our airfield and have the chance to grab a chat with the pilots that flew them. 

With flying in the afternoon our showcase displays are perfectly timed to also fit in a morning of exploring the museum and exhibitions.

Showcase days occur throughout the year. See below for details on upcoming dates.

Showcase Day: From IWM Duxford and Stow Maries

We are excited to present our first ever shared Showcase on Wednesday 19 August with Stow Maries Great War AerodromeThis exciting dual display day kicks off from both airfields from around 2pm.

As ever, enjoy two hours of iconic aircraft take to the skies. See the ‘THANK U NHS’ Spitfire fly over IWM Duxford or head to Stow Maries to see amazing sports flyers and racers in action.

Tickets must be booked directly at the site you intend to visit. Tickets are non-transferable.

    The Hurricane was the RAF's first monoplane fighter, going into service with the Royal Air Force, Hurricane Squadrons fought alongside Spitfires during the Battle of Britain.

    Designed by Lockheed in 1947, the Cosmic Wind is a small high performance aircraft originally built for Formula 1 class racing.

    Photographic reconnaissance Spitfires were painted blue and pink, camouflage when flying at high or low altitude.

    Nicknamed 'Wacky Wabbit' this Harvard appeared as a training aircraft of the RAF Desert Air Force in the 1940's.

    North American TF51D Mustang 'Contrary Mary'

    The P-51’s primary role was to provide long range bomber escort over Europe from bases in the UK. The black and white checked colours are of 78th Fighter Group based at RAF Duxford in 1944.

    P-51D 'Miss Helen' wears the colours of 352nd FG 487th FS who she originally flew with from RAF Bodney, Norfolk.

    Built in 1941 for the RAF as a DH.89 Dominie trainer, G-AGJG, wears the colours of a Post-War Scottish Airways Ltd Dragon Rapide airliner.

Stow Maries Line Up

Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome is a unique place, with a unique history. The aerodrome lies to the east of Chelmsford and west of Maldon, Essex and has the largest known surviving group of RFC buildings on a WWI aerodrome anywhere in the country. The museum has a growing collection of objects directly related to the site and an active grass runway.

    Originally a basic trainer for the US Air Force, Yale's were ordered for the French Armée de l'Air. Many Yale trainers were transferred to Canada under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan.
