Join the host of television's Combat Dealers Bruce Crompton for a tour of IWM London's collection of military vehicles, and learn about the role small museums across the country play in conserving wartime objects.

Bruce will be joined by senior IWM curator John Delaney, telling the stories of IWM's iconic vehicles including IWM's Avro Lancaster nose section and the Midget Submarine X-7, used in Operation 'Source', the 1943 raid on the German battleship Tirpitz. Following the tour, there will be a discussion and Q&A with  Bruce and John. Bruce will talk about his extensive work with smaller British museums, while John will discuss the restoration and preservation work undertaken by IWM.

About Bruce Crompton

Bruce Crompton is a renowned military history expert, collector and passionate advocate for preserving historical artefacts. As a self-taught historian, he has dedicated his life to researching and acquiring rare military items from around the world. His television series, Combat Dealers, and podcast, Amazing War Stories, have captivated audiences with his engaging storytelling and deep knowledge of military history.

With a mission to keep history alive, Bruce supports museums worldwide and shares his expertise through speaking engagements, writing for Classic Military Vehicle magazine, and consulting on Hollywood films such as Saving Private Ryan and Fury.

About John Delaney

Bruce will be joined on his tour by IWM's John Delaney.

Joining IWM in 1994, John began his career as a photo curator, moving on to looking after the IWM’s large object collections at IWM Duxford in 1999. From 2016 to 2021 he led the Museum’s Second World War and mid-20th Century curatorial team, and he is now Curatorial Content Lead at IWM Duxford. His specialisms include military vehicle and aircraft technology and the development of mechanised warfare theory, especially BlitzkriegHis areas of interest also extend into the military campaigns in Europe 1944 and 1945, deception operations and the French Resistance.

  • Talk and Q&A only

    • Join Bruce Crompton at IWM London from 7.30pm for a conversation and Q&A about IWM's military vehicles
    • Joining you and Bruce will be John Delaney, IWM's Curatorial Content Leader
    • Following the talk, have your questions answered by Bruce and John.
