Three members of the British Army’s Film and Photographic Unit (APFU), who photographed and filmed the Battle of Arnhem. The APFUs footage was used in the film Theirs is the Glory.

As the Battle of Arnhem reaches its 80th anniversary, enjoy a screening of a classic war film chronicling the efforts of the British 1st Airborne Division in holding the bridge at Arnhem for nine days against overwhelming odds, Brian Desmond Hurst’s Theirs is the Glory.

Using footage of the battle intercut with scenes filmed in Arnhem just a year after the battle took place,  the film employed those who had taken part in the battle as actors, with many soldiers playing themselves.

Remade 31 years later as the blockbuster A Bridge Too Far, Theirs is the Glory is a truly unique British war film. Enjoy it in the surrounds of IWM Duxford, with an introductory talk and Q&A held by Jon Baker, the curator of The Airborne Assault Museum.
