Johnnie Holmes (seated front) and three other members of 1 SAS Regiment with their camouflaged jeep in Le Foret de Verrieres near Chateauroux, June 1944. All except Holmes were captured by the Germans on 3 July 1944 and executed four days later.

Join former war correspondent and bestselling author Damien Lewis aboard HMS Belfast to discuss his latest book, SAS: Daggers Drawn.

Recounting the actions of the Special Air Service in occupied France during the summer of 1944, learn from Damien how these men lived, fought, and died behind enemy lines, using unconventional warfare techniques to harass and slow down the German forces in the days, weeks, and months after D-Day.

Following the conversation, ask your questions in a live Q&A session and meet Damien Lewis to have your book copy signed. Then enjoy exclusive after-hours entry to HMS Belfast's Decks, exploring the floating city from which some of the first shots of D-Day were fired.

About the Book

In the summer of 1944, the SAS were charged with the most crucial D-Day missions, taking on the might of the Nazi Reich deep behind enemy lines. Facing Hitler’s Panzer divisions, it would take maverick thinking and unconventional warfare to survive and overcome.

Increasingly, the war to against Germany would descend into a bitter struggle. No greater courage can be written, nor unconventional soldiering envisaged, than that evidenced by these renegade warriors as they dared all to bring the war to its close.
