About the Event
This is your chance to hear acclaimed historian Clare Mulley tell the incredible story of Agent Zo, aka Elżbieta Zawacka and Elizabeth Watson. The only female member of the Polish special forces paras, the ‘Silent Unseen’, SOE’s P Section, who were secretly trained in British country houses during the Second World War, and the only woman to parachute from Britain into Nazi-occupied Poland.
Following the talk, Clare Mulley will answer your questions, and be available to sign copies of her new book, while you will be granted exclusive after-hours access to the award-winning Second World War Galleries.

About Clare Mulley
Clare Mulley is an award-winning public historian, author and broadcaster, primarily focused on female experience during the Second World War.
Previous books by Clare include the award-winning The Woman Who Saved the Children, on Eglantyne Jebb, founder of Save the Children; The Spy Who Loved about the remarkable Polish-born British special agent Krystyna Skarbek aka Christine Granville; and The Women Who Flew for Hitler, which tells the story of Nazi Germany’s only two female test pilots, one of whom tried to save Hitler’s life, while the other tried to kill him. Clare’s books are widely translated, and all are under option for film or TV.
Clare has written for various newspapers and magazines including the Telegraph, Mirror and Mail, History Today, BBC History and Britain at War magazines. She reviews for the Spectator, BBC History and TLS among other publications, and has served as a judge for the Historical Writers Association and Biographers Club book prizes.
About Your Host
Roger Moorhouse is a historian and author specialising in Nazi Germany, Poland and the Second World War in Europe. He is author of books including Killing Hitler, Berlin at War, The Devils’ Alliance, The Forgers, and the critically acclaimed First to Fight, which was awarded the Polish Foreign Ministry History Prize in 2020.
Roger’s books have appeared in more than 20 languages. A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society since 2015, Roger was awarded the Order of Merit of the Polish Republic in 2020, for services to Polish history.
