At HMS Belfast there are family activities every Saturday and Sunday this September and daily throughout October Half Term.
Get to grips with the science and skills needed to survive on HMS Belfast with Ship Shape and Family Mission: D-Day Edition, when you come on board.
From 23 - 31 October 2021, join us for again for more Ship Shape and take charge of the ship in our interactive family activity Sea Legs!
All activities are drop in and are recommended for families with children aged 7+. Activities vary daily, we recommend checking details on arrival.
All hands on deck! We need your help to keep this iconic warship in tip-top condition. Discover what it takes to conserve HMS Belfast, the largest object in IWM’s collection.
Join our team of expert conservators as you help prevent damage, search for hungry insect pests burrowing into the ship’s core, test expert packing techniques to protect fragile objects and learn to use specialised equipment.
Ship Shape is a drop-in activity recommended for families with children aged 7+.
This activity takes place in the Arctic Messdeck on Level 2. For the best experience we recommend setting aside 20 minutes for this activity.
Ahoy shipmates! It’s time to earn your sea legs. Take charge of HMS Belfast in this interactive family activity and complete fun tasks around the ship.
It’s 1942 and HMS Belfast is ready to set sail. The only thing is we’ve misplaced where we are supposed to be going! We need your help to plot the course for the upcoming mission and make sure everything is shipshape and ready to go.
Hop on the balance board to test how steady you’ll be on choppy seas. Figure out just how to feed 950 men on board with limited rations and even find out what kind of supplies you’ll need along the way.
Get to grips with the science and skills needed to survive on HMS Belfast, solve nautical puzzles and discover for yourself what life was like for the ship’s company during the Second World War.

As a team use your Kit Bag to find hidden messages, predict the weather for sailing, discover ship life and crack Morse code.
Learn about the biggest invasion in history as you explore HMS Belfast. This interactive storytelling experience is based on personal stories from those who served on D-Day.
