About the historic runway

About the historic runway
IWM Duxford’s airfield has a story that stretches back over a hundred years.
It was here that pilots learned to fly the revolutionary bi-planes of the First World War. It was home to subsonic jet fighters during the Cold War. But it was during the Second World War that Duxford made history. By 1939, Duxford was a sector station of No.12 Group Fighter Command. Eventually a ‘Big Wing’ of five squadrons flew from Duxford and Fowlmere (Duxford’s satellite airfield), led by Squadron Leader Douglas Bader.
And it eventually became the award-winning museum we know today, home to the Duxford Dash! This unique running event challenges you to conquer the runway that made history.
Whatever your motivation - we can't wait to welcome you to Duxford Dash! Sunday 18 September 2022, IWM Duxford, Cambridgeshire. Sign up now.
