Media Accreditation

Any external media outlets across print, broadcast and online can apply for media accreditation. Internal media outlets such as members’ organisations, internal staff newsletters or in-house communications teams will be not accredited.

Yes, freelance media can apply for media accreditation but must provide proof of assignment from a bona fide media outlet, or links to recently published work from an external media outlet. We cannot accept applications from uncommissioned freelancers.

Yes, if you are a photographer or videographer you can apply for media accreditation but must provide proof of assignment from a bona fide media outlet, or recent proof of publication.

Yes. We welcome applications from international outlets.

We will aim to get back to you as soon as possible to let you know if your accreditation application has been successful. We will ensure we respond a minimum of two weeks before the event and send on any additional information you may require.

Please advise the IWM communications team by emailing [email protected]

We can accredit one member of staff from each press outlet, and up to four crew members for each broadcaster.

Media accreditation can only be granted to working members of the press, so any accompanying family or friends will need to purchase their tickets in advance.

Please contact the IWM communications team on [email protected] ahead of an air show to see if they are hosting any preview press activities.

Accreditation will not be approved for documentary filming. Any kind of filming that is not for newsgathering purposes for any activity under the IWM Flying Season including documentaries should be arranged via the Commercial Filming team, please email: [email protected].

No. If you do not have a press ticket or any other form of air show ticket, you will not be admitted. All tickets including press tickets must be arranged in advance.

You can apply for as many events as you would like to attend but please be aware that we may not be able to grant you accreditation for all of them.

Yes, if you are unsuccessful for one event please do feel free to apply for accreditation to another as we may be able to accommodate you on another occasion.

All applications will be considered on a case by case basis. For each event, we will look to accredit a range of media outlets with priority given to recognised newspapers, news agencies and major aviation publications. We will not consider applications if you are unable to produce the required information in order to meet our eligibility criteria.

IWM receive a high volume of accreditation requests each year and are unable to grant them all. We are sincerely sorry if you are unsuccessful.

We appreciate that assignments can change at short notice, please notify [email protected] of this change and we will ensure your replacement is granted access.

Media Facilities and Access

Applicants who are successfully accredited will be sent an email with details about how to obtain their ticket and parking pass and further details of flying displays, ground activities and media facilities available at the event itself.

If you would like access to any of the media facilities (see below), you will need to register at the Media Centre where your ticket will be swapped for a press pass.

The following media facilities will be available for the Duxford Summer Air Show and Battle of Britain Air Show:

  • A dedicated Media Centre offering press materials, up-to-date flying schedules, refreshments and work stations.
  • Early morning unrestricted access to the Flightline Walk.*
  • Access to a digital press pack.
  • Access to two press pens.
  • Opportunity to organise interviews with spokespeople.

Yes, details of press parking will accompany the information you receive if you are successfully accredited.

No. If you have been offered access inside an aircraft, including a flight, please advise a member of the IWM communications team at the Media Centre.

Media Activities and Interviews

The IWM communications team will provide information of any planned photo calls along with further schedules of media activity each day. Please visit the Media Centre on arrival for information.

Accredited media are asked to consider interviews in advance of their visit so that a time and location can be agreed upon during the Air Show. Interviews will usually take place at the Media Centre and will be supervised by a member of the IWM Communications team. Please let the IWM Communications team know in advance who you wish to interview, and please note that it is not possible to interview pilots before flying.

All broadcast interviews must be arranged and supervised by the IWM Communications team.

All press activity, including organised photo shoots, interviews or enhanced access to any part of the site must be arranged via the IWM Communications team. Please let the team know ahead of time on [email protected] or at the Media Centre if you have any ideas or have identified any opportunities.

Other

No, photos can only be used for newsgathering purposes. If you would like to sell your photos or license them to a publisher, a licensing agreement will need to be arranged with IWM’s Media Licensing team.

Keep an eye out for updates on the air shows webpages, and/or sign up to our eNews. The IWM communications team will circulate emails to accredited media with further information in the lead up to the event, including access to a digital press pack.

We recommend accredited media outline what equipment they plan to bring to an event in advance. Equipment can be left in the media centre as this will always be staffed throughout the Air Show days, but as parking may be walking distance from the media centre you are advised to consider this when bringing equipment. Please note that the use of drones will not be permitted and that you cannot leave equipment in the media centre overnight.

Drones are strictly prohibited at any of our Air Shows, Flying Days and special Flying Events.
