At IWM Duxford our team of conservation staff and volunteers are working to safeguard the history of our large museum objects.
In our Conservation in Action hangar you can chat to the team about the work they are doing and find out how we protect our objects for future generations to experience and enjoy.
Our rich and varied collection includes the exceptional and the everyday, the beautiful and the seemingly ordinary. We look after art, artefacts, archives, photography, film, books and sound recordings. All of these items need to be taken care of with conservation, correct storage and display conditions so that future generations can continue to enjoy and learn from the stories they tell.
Conserving the Handley Page Victor XH648
This year our Conservation Team is working on the Handley Page Victor XH648. The only one of its type in the world, the Victor is an important object in IWM’s collection. It is in good condition internally but there are signs of corrosion externally and it needs to be conserved so that future generations can enjoy it. It is estimated that the conservation work will take between three and five years to complete.
