of 1916. The former stands full length centre facing left holding in his right hand a rifle and bayonet and in his left hand a smoking
pipe. He wears a black leather cap with a short horse-hair comb, a leopard skin hat band with patriotic rosette, dark blue coat, red
collar, epaulettes and cuffs, white facings, white waistcoat, white patched trousers, red hose and buckle shoes. He also carries a sabre
with suspended sword knot. To the foreground left a detail of wicker barricades. To the right a half buried cannon ball. In the background
an encampment of four tents with regimental colours flying. The whole is surrounded by a decorative border of vertical and horizontal
lines. A decorative label bearing the legend '1793 FANTASSIN' placed bottom centre of border. The latter shows a full length poilu facing
left and peering through a snipers slit in a heavily sandbagged trench. He wears regulation horizon blue uniform with dark blue scarf and
mitts. Over the greatcoat torso he appears to be wearing body armour. The whole is surrounded by a decorative border of vertical and
horizontal lines. A decorative label bearing the legend '1916 FANTASSIN' placed bottom centre of border.
