Gloire aux Soldats Francais [Glory to the French Soldier]

Both figures hold respectively with their right hands both hands of the central figure; their left hands hold aloft a laurel wreath/sunburst above his head proclaiming the year 1916. Behind each 'ancien' there is planted the standard of his allegiance; on the right, the white royalist standard of the Bourbons, on the left a quartered republican standard, which bears centrally the motif of the Phrygian cap of Liberty surmounting the Fasces.
