British officer served as pilot with 899 Naval Air Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm aboard HMS Eagle during Operation Musketeer, Suez, Egypt, 10/1956-11/1956; served as flying instructor with Fleet Air Arm in GB, 1957-1958; served as Naval Standards Flight Examiner at HMS Heron, Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton, GB, 1958-1960; served with 803 Naval Air Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm at HMS Fulmar, Royal Naval Air Station Lossiemouth, GB and HMS Hermes in North Atlantic and Far East, 1961-1963; served on staff of Flag Officer Naval Flying Training at HMS Heron, Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton, GB, 1965-1967

REEL 1 Background in GB, 1929-1947: family; education. Aspects of period as telegraphist and petty officer in GB and aboard HMS Forth and HMS Obdurate, Mediterranean Fleet in Mediterranean, 1947-1953: background to call-up for naval service; opinion of smoking below decks; attitude towards work; story of narrow escape from Prince Philip’s driving on Malta; telegraphist/air gunner training in GB; opinion of two seater Hawker Sea Fury. Aspects of training as pilot with Fleet Air Arm in GB, 1953-1955: initial flying training grading from HMS Indefatigable; start of flying training with No 22 Flying Training School, RAF at RAF Syerston; opinion of Percival Provost T Mk 1; opinion of early helicopter pilots; opinion of De Havilland Vampire; problems ejecting from and spinning De Havilland Vampire.
