British officer served as pilot with 807 Naval Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm aboard HMS Theseus during Korean War, 9/1950-4/1951; various appointments with Fleet Air Arm in GB, 1952-1971

REEL 1 Background in GB, 1927-1943: family; education. Aspects of period as midshipman with Royal Navy in GB, 1943-1949: background to joining Royal Navy; pattern of training; joining HMS Queen Elizabeth in Far East, 1949. Aspects of period of flying training with Fleet Air Arm in GB, 1949-1950: background to volunteering for Fleet Air Arm; early interest in aviation; deck landing training including use of batsman; impressions of Hawker Sea Fury; opinion of Supermarine Seafire. Recollections of operations as pilot with 807 Naval Air Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm aboard HMS Theseus off Korea, 9/1950-4/1951: continuation of training on joining squadron; character and organisation of squadron; deck landing practice and importance of landing on rapidly. REEL 2 Continues: arrangement of arrester wires on aircraft carrier; voyage from GB to Far East; situation on arrival off Korea; type of operations carried out; character of rocket attacks; vehicle attacks; incident when his aircraft was hit by ground fire; weather conditions, winter 1950-1951; items carried in cockpit; story of engine failure and forced landing in paddy field, 13/4/1951; rescue by American helicopter crew from USS Manchester (CL-83); evacuation to Hong Kong for hospitalisation.
