Aspects of period as cadet at Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, GB, 1941-1944: evacuation of college to Bristol after bombing by Germans; pattern of education; tutors; opinion of facilities at Bristol. Aspects of period as midshipman aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth in Far East, 1944-1946: appointment to battleship; varied nature of duties; accommodation; duties in Far East; destroyer time; joining minesweeper on return to GB, 1946. Aspects of period on Sub-Lieutenant Course with Royal Navy in GB, 1946-1948: character of Sub-Lieutenant Courses including flying course; opinion of De Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth; spinning aircraft; obtaining watchkeeper's certificate, 1948.
