Aspects of enlistment and training with Royal Navy in GB, 1950-1951: selection process at HMS Daedalus, Royal Naval Air Station Lee-on-Solent including eye examination and giving talk; aptitude tests at RAF Hornchurch; joining HMS Vanguard; accommodation and watch system worked; status at upper yardman; first experience of drill; treatment by chief petty officer on promotion to sub-lieutenant; arrival in Gun Room aboard HMS Illustrious.
